This week is National Volunteer Week and on behalf of  The Mentoring Partnership, we’d like to thank you for volunteering your time to help skilled immigrants integrate into the Toronto region labour market. As a volunteer-mentor you have shared your insights about the Canadian workplace and opened your professional networks to your mentee helping them achieve their employment goals.

You should not underestimate the contribution you’ve made to your mentee’s journey in the Toronto region. Here is just a taste of the feedback we get from our mentees about the impact mentors like you have:

  • “My mentor made my settlement in Canada a wonderful experience.”
  • “I have broadened my knowledge of Canadian business culture and expanded my professional network. I have found a job in my field of expertise.”
  • “Understanding the similarity between the professional engineer in Canada and in my previous home. This gave me confidence that I can find a job in Canada.”
  • ”My mentor motivated me a lot. She helped me successfully complete my internship through which I finally got a job!”

Mentees also indicate that their mentors help them become better prepared for employment in their profession (89%) and present their skills and qualifications with confidence to employers (88%).

In the spirit of Volunteer Week, we thank you, our volunteers, for the difference you are making in the lives of new immigrants in our region.
