Employer Workshops

TRIEC’s workshops are designed to increase employers’ capacity to effectively recruit, select and integrate skilled immigrants into the Canadian workplace.

Recruiting and Selecting Skilled Immigrants: How-to HR Workshops

This workshop is intended for individuals who are responsible for recruiting, screening and selecting talent for their organizations. In this workshop, participants learn about:

  • The link between unconscious bias and culture
  • The impact of cultural biases when sourcing candidates, conducting resume and telephone screening, and interviewing
  • Individual and organizational strategies to eliminate selection bias when considering skilled immigrants

 Who should attend:

  • HR professionals and line managers with hiring responsibilities

This curriculum has been delivered to 400 employers. Starting in late 2011, this workshop will be available to Toronto Region employers on a fee-for-service basis, delivered by George Brown College and Sheridan College.

The workshop can be delivered onsite at the employer location or at the college. It can be delivered as a full-day or half-day session, or can be customized in other formats. The workshop incorporates a variety of learning tools such as TRIEC’s training videos, group discussions and role play exercises. Participants receive a package of supporting material that includes a participant manual.
