ALLIES has relationships across the country with national employers actively working on solutions to employ skilled immigrants at a meaningful level. These partners have identified senior local leaders in their organizations to participate and engage in creating and developing local immigrant employment councils. They have also identified, encouraged and supported corporate leaders to participate in solution-oriented initiatives such as mentoring, internships, public awareness campaigns and award programs. The partners have further been able to inform the discussion around the advantages of hiring skilled immigrants with other local stakeholders including government, regulatory bodies and universities.
There are several benefits of becoming a national corporate partner:
- Lends your voice to a local movement to tap into the talents of skilled immigrants;
- Provides a potential key leadership role in a local effort;
- Allows for a role in implementing solutions that have a clear, measurable and visible impact in local communities;
- Grants direct access to skilled immigrants (mentoring, learning about employer practices);
- Creates opportunities for public profile and media coverage (awards, employee and mentor recognition); and
- Influences immigration and labour market policy trends, solutions, deliberations and actions both at all government levels.

LLIES (Assisting Local Leaders with Immigrant Employment Strategies) supports local efforts in Canadian cities to adapt and implement programs that further the suitable employment of skilled immigrants. Through a series of multi-stakeholder initiatives, ALLIES and local partners contribute to building a stronger Canada by using the talents, connections and experience of skilled immigrants who have made Canada their new home. The project is jointly funded by Maytree and The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation.
