On July 15, the Ontario Human Rights Commission released their policy on removing the ‘Canadian experience’ barrier. The OHRC takes the position that a strict requirement for ‘Canadian experience’ is discriminatory and can only be used in rare circumstances. The policy places the onus on employers and professional regulators to show that their requirement for ‘Canadian experience’ is bona fide

Employers and regulatory bodies ned to askabout about all of a job applicant’s previous work – where they got their experience does not matter. The policy provides guidance to employers on how to develop practices, policies and programs that do not result in discrimination.
