Nearly 50 international law graduates assembled at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law building today, May 3 with great anticipation and excitement. The reason? They have been accepted into the Internationally Trained Lawyers Program (ITLP).

It was the first day of their four-day orientation event to the new bridge-training program. Program Director Gina Alexandris noted that the 10-month program includes academic skills training, cultural and language fluency training, and legal internship and mentorship opportunities. “It will assist internationally trained lawyers with Ontario accreditation and employment techniques.”

During the first session of the orientation program, Founding Publisher of the Canadian Immigrant magazine Nick Noorani gave the ILGs present at the event his Seven Success Secrets for Canadian Immigrants, tips on arriving in Canada as immigrants and being successful in their own unique way.

The ITLP was launched last year with funding from the Ministry of Citizenship, and is supported by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the National Committee on Accreditation and numerous Toronto-based law firms, corporate counsel’s offices and others.
