Today, the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) launched the TRIEC Campus at their annual Council meeting of business and community leaders. The Campus is a new online learning hub offering complimentary, self-paced resources designed to increase the effectiveness of leaders and employees in today’s culturally diverse workplace.

“With over 50% of Toronto residents born abroad, the benefits that a culturally diverse workplace inclusive of skilled immigrants brings in terms of innovation and access to markets are clear,” said Joan Atlin, interim Executive Director at TRIEC. “The TRIEC Campus provides the tools and resources employers need to make their diversity goals a reality.”

The TRIEC Campus provides tools to help business and human resources leaders create and implement human resources practices to be better able to recruit and retain skilled immigrants. These tools can help promote systemic change and measure progress towards developing culturally inclusive workplaces.

“The resources on the TRIEC Campus have been incredibly useful for me as an HR leader,” says Shirley Marie Garcia, Senior Manager of Human Resources at March of Dimes Canada, who participated in the pilot phase of the Campus. “The information provided practical tips – around recruitment, retention and cross-cultural communication – and also reinforced our commitment to work towards embedding real change in the organization.”

In addition to advancing overall organizational diversity, the Campus is a learning and development tool for both human resources professionals and all those working or looking to work on culturally diverse teams, including skilled immigrants. E-learning modules, videos and discussion guides cover effective communication and teamwork as well as recruitment, selection and talent management practices to create workplaces inclusive of skilled immigrants.

The TRIEC Campus was made possible through funding by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration. To learn more about the TRIEC Campus and to register, visit www.trieccampus.ca.

The TRIEC Campus is a recertification partner with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) in Ontario and courses can be taken for credit towards the recertification of the CHRP designation.
