Margaret EatonDuring my first week at TRIEC, I was fortunate to be able to attend The Mentoring Partnership Partner’s meeting and Recognition reception. It was an opportunity for me to hear firsthand the powerful stories of change that arise when mentee works with mentor and when employers experience directly the value of providing opportunities to skilled immigrants. It was a forceful demonstration of the hallmark of TRIEC’s work: a focus on results that make a difference for immigrants and employers.

I’m starting at TRIEC during a unique time in the organization’s life: next year we celebrate our tenth anniversary. As we approach this milestone, there are several key strategic questions to answer. What are we doing that we should do more of? What do we need to start doing? With changes to immigration policy, what will be the needs of new immigrants over the next ten years? How will the needs of employers change over that period? And how can we continue to ensure that Toronto region employers are leaders in immigrant integration? In 2013, we will be embarking on a strategic planning process that will engage our key stakeholders and partners to help us answer these questions and plan for the future.

It’s a great honour to take on the role of Executive Director of TRIEC at this exciting time. I’m fortunate, and daunted, to be following in the footsteps of Elizabeth McIsaac whose leadership and commitment to innovation as Executive Director have left a tremendous legacy.

I look forward to working with you and learning from you as we journey forward. Please feel free to get in touch with me and share your thoughts and ideas.
