When it comes to mentoring, 10 is the magic number. The Mentoring Partnership reached 10 000 matches this week, just in time for its 10th anniversary.

The program, which began 10 years ago this year, matches skilled immigrants in the GTA with mentors in their field. Being mentored helps participants build networks, knowledge and connections, and increases their chances of finding work equivalent to their skills and their experience.

There are just as many benefits for the mentors. They can build their leadership and coaching skills by taking part, and are supported in their role through professional development seminars and coaching. Not only this, but it also connects businesses and organizations to the GTA’s vast pool of immigrant talent, giving them more resources for the future hiring and development of staff.

The program has had proven successes for both mentor and mentee, with 94% of mentors reporting an improved ability to coach and develop people, and over 70% of mentees gaining employment in their profession or a related field. We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of our employers and service delivery partners , without whom this achievement would not have been possible.

To mark the 10th Anniversary, we’ll be sharing stories from participants in the program in the coming weeks – and telling you how you can be a part of it of the celebrations. Follow the hashtag #TMP10 on Twitter to get involved.
