Three hundred mentors and newcomer mentees, three hours, one amazing orientation session. Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)’s new mentoring cohort with TRIEC Mentoring Partnership on January 25th was a huge success. It was the largest orientation session ever in TRIEC Mentoring Partnership’s history. A special announcement of our new three-year partnership with RBC drew extra attention.

 Big Matches

This event brought participants, RBC staff, coaches from our community partners and TRIEC staff to RBC WaterPark Place Auditorium. More than 150 RBC volunteer mentors were introduced to their job-ready immigrant mentees based on their professions to offer career advice for resume building, interview preparation and networking.

“Over 2,000 newcomers will be mentored through TRIEC Mentoring Partnership this year. The results are fantastic. 77% of our mentees find work in their field or a related field within six months after completing their mentoring partnership. Our mentors say that they are much more likely to interview an immigrant professional and have a better understanding of the challenges in the labour market for immigrant professionals,” said Margaret Eaton, Executive Director at TRIEC.

The orientation session, delivered by Tina Virmani, Learning Specialist at TRIEC, ensured each partnership’s seamless beginning. The participants learned guiding principles of partnership and roles as mentors, mentees and coaches, tools and resources that help their mentoring journey.

Go National: New Three-Year Partnership

RBC and TRIEC also used the event to announce the new three-year partnership to help job-ready immigrants achieve gainful employment across Canada. RBC is the lead sponsor of the National Mentoring Partnership, a mentorship opportunity where skilled immigrants across Canada are matched with mentors from various employers, including RBC. This sponsorship commitment will enable TRIEC to onboard a total of six national mentoring partners and six employer partners from across Canada to match 840 immigrant professionals with mentors in their occupations.
