When Ms. Shabnum Budhwani said that the success rate of Skills for Change, a community organization that specializes in helping internationally trained professionals (IEDs) in fields such as teaching, accounting, engineering and medicine find appropriate jobs in their fields or related fields – is around 70 per cent, I was quite taken aback. Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office’s (TNO) success rate in finding newcomers appropriate jobs is around 80 per cent depending upon on the stage an individual is at in searching for a job, told Parveen Amlani, Program Manager at TNO. These jobs are not survival jobs that many of us hear about such as a doctor driving a cab.
